Rev. Barbara Jean Steele is an evangelist, missionary, and educator. She was ordained an evangelist in 2001. She desires to help those who are in need at home, in her community and abroad. Being raised in a mission minded family, she learned at an early age that giving of her time, talent, and treasure brings hope, joy, and peace to those who desire to rise above their present circumstances. Showing that she cares by her prayers and actions have caused many to revere her God.
Rev. Barbara Jean is a member of Zion Baptist Church of Ambler, Pennsylvania. At Zion, she serves as an Associate Minister, and Vice-President of the Star of Zion Missionary Ministry. She visits the sick, those who are shut-in, and those who need a word of comfort. As a leader, she has organized mission trips to help renovate homes, churches, schools, and hospitals in the United States and in seven countries, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica, and Costa Rica. She has taught Bible Study to children in Honduras, and Costa Rica. She along with her husband,
Rev. Wendell L. Steele, Sr. have led successful teams to build livable structures and develop the spiritual well being of others. She has also educated the congregation to the plight of the less fortunate by having seminars on Mental Health Awareness, Suicide Prevention, Domestic Abuse, and Human Trafficking. She is a member of NAMI, the National Alliance for Mental Illness.
Rev. Barbara Jean is a former member of Grace Baptist Church of Germantown. During her twenty-seven years at Grace she became an advocate against homelessness. She was the president of the Homeless Ministry for seven years. The ministry was led to feed those who slept on the streets of Philadelphia, adopt families that were on the brink of being homeless, and give scholarships to high school students who had experienced homelessness. She also taught Bible Study with those who lived on the streets.
Rev. Barbara Jean is a retired Mathematics Teacher for the School District of Philadelphia. During her thirty-five years she sponsored a dance group, a choir and graduating classes. As Lead Mathematics Teacher she guided her co-workers as to how to give students a better understanding of mathematical concepts. She along with a fellow co-worker instituted the Student Compassionate Team.
Rev. Barbara Jean is a graduate of Palmer Theological Seminary with a degree, Master of Theological Studies, concentration in Christian Mission; Beaver College, Master of Education; Cheyney State College, Bachelor of Science in Education, concentration Secondary Mathematics. She has received two awards from the Philadelphia Baptist Association.
Rev. Barbara Jean Steele is devoted to her family. She and her husband, Rev. Wendell L. Steele, Sr., reside in Philadelphia PA. They have eight children (one deceased), nineteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
She serves the Lord with gladness and lives by Psalm 1.
