Weekly Announcements for week of June 15, 2025

THE HOLY TRINITY 06-15-2025

Last Sunday, PENTECOST was a “WOW!” event. Thanks to all who assisted and contributed!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

The best legacy any of us can pass on to the children we are in relationship with – children we have helped give birth to or are legally responsible for, children we mentor or teach or support, children in our family circle or neighborhood or congregation, each child and all children – is the experience of our affirming love and the example of our everyday values. We need men and fathers tender enough to give love and strong enough to give leadership. Men, stay on course with your faith and your faithfulness! Thanks for being there and here! We love you and value you and pray for you.

Wear your church around town and at the June 29 Picnic. We are receiving orders and deposits for the “95th Anniversary” t-shirts, $20 total. Thank you, Carol Chatman (coordination) and Janice Henderson (shirt maker).

ST. PETER’S CHURCH COUNCIL (06/09): (1) selected Lutheran Settlement House (one of our Lutheran Charity Appeal organizations) for additional support as our July – December Mission Offering; (2) received Pastors’ report, 95th Anniversary report, Property report, and Synod Assembly reflections; (3) discussed Council meeting time and format to reach consensus on some “in person” dates. Pray for your elected servant leaders, pray for your church, and pray for the faith, the love, and the work we all share.

ThiS week At st. peTer’s

Wednesday, 10:30AM Whole Foods fresh produce distribution in Rhoda Hall.

Thursday… JUNETEENTH. This commemorates the day nearly 250,000 enslaved people in Texas (and other parts of the United States) learned that their cries and prayers for liberation had indeed been heard. But the news of freedom and actual liberty

arrived two and a half years later than the technicality of the “law”, so there was

additional time of enslavement to be suffered and survived. We should lift up

the truth in a nation that sometimes hides and denies and wants to return to

racist thinking, politics, and violence. LORD, help us proclaim freedom!

Thursday, 7:00PM All Saints Choir rehearsal. Add your voice to the praise and the encouragement!

Thursday, 7:30PM AL-ANON STEP GROUP. Find and share support to overcome codependence!

Friday… SUMMER officially begins. Have a safe, blessed, faithful, productive season!

Friday, 6:30PM Girl Scouts (cleaning up and closing up for a summer break).

On June 21, 1981 (44 years next Saturday), Gwendolyn Johnson-Bond was ordained by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to serve as a pastor. Short in stature and long in experience, quiet by nature and always a compassionate listener, Pastor Gwen has felt blessed to be a Christian and privileged to lead by serving. She has remained firmly rooted in the African-American urban community, committed to invite new people and to try new ideas, and ever hopeful for her Evangelical Lutheran Church in America denomination.
