3rd Sunday After Epiphany

For Paul, the human body was a good metaphor to describe the form and function of
the Christian community of faith. He is writing to a congregation that he helped to found, a
congregation that has many gifts among its members but also much disunity. Paul offers the
images of talking feet, self-deprecating ears, and arrogant eyes. Paul wants the sisters and
brothers in this Corinthian community of faith to understand that the Church can only function
correctly as a healthy body of connected interactive parts. He wants them to think of their
congregation as diverse members unified by the Spirit in loving community and in the mission
of sharing and serving Jesus Christ. We need each other. And Christ needs us joined in unity if he is to have a living and functioning body. Every single person in the Church matters, each
one belongs. Together.

Drumbeats of worship. Today we welcome back Leon Jordan, who was with us last Sunday.
RAFFLE FOR 4 BOX SEATS. Aaron Draper won the tickets to Tuesday’s 76ers vs. Lakers basketball game. But the congregation was a winner also, receiving $1,320 for its Building Fund.

FEBRUARY 9… St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is 95 years old. WHOO-HA!
February 10… CHURCH COUNCIL meeting on Zoom, 7:00PM.
February 23…7th SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY. Annual Congregational Meeting after
worship, in the Sanctuary and online (alternate date March 2). Adopt our 2025 Budget. Elect Church Council. Receive reports. Give thanks for God’s grace… for St. Peter’s journey… for each other and our
shared faith and faithfulness.
Month of March… Women’s History Month.
March 5… ASH WEDNESDAY, FIRST DAY OF LENT. Lord, have mercy!
