Weekly Announcements for the week of May 3, 2026

5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER 05-03-2026

Just where are we going? In our personal trek from womb to tomb, there are so many paths we might take. Far too many persons just wander mindlessly, follow the well-worn paths of the crowd, or become fascinated with short cuts and the fast track… but experience teaches us that those aimless paths are just a series of wrong turns and that those easy paths often lead to dead ends. But there is another way. And we already know it. If you don’t want to get lost, choose Jesus Christ as “the way” and keep at it. In Jesus the human journey becomes intentional, compassionate, and meaningful – a pilgrimage toward holiness, toward God, toward real life. And ultimately, as Jesus assures us, we are “going home”, for GOD HAS A PLACE FOR US.

Christian LIVING is always expressed through Christ-like GIVING!

Beyond support of our 2026 Budget ($187,927 is what we envision spending this year) are those opportunities for special giving on behalf of others. They include:

ELCA World Hunger Appeal (meeting international, national, and local hunger and poverty needs).

We received $6 last Sunday and $1,407 to date. Your love is showing!

Lutheran Charities Appeal (assisting three local social ministry organizations – KenCrest Services, Lutheran

Settlement House, and Gemma Services – that serve thousands of neighbors with various needs).

We received $85.00 last Sunday and $441 to date. Lives are being changed!

Mission Offering (For January 1 – June 30 it is Sisters of St. Joseph Refugee Housing Project. We sent them $579.65 in 2024.) We received $10 last Sunday and $258 to date. Help welcome others!

“God’s Global Barnyard” is an ELCA development project to fight poverty. We have received $20 to date.

Monday… Congressman Dwight Evans reminds you that this day is the deadline

for voter registration for the Pennsylvania primary election on May 19. You might be hearing in

the news that there are attempts in some states to make voting “more fair” by new legislation that actually

lessens the strength of Black voters or of non-MAGA voters through redistricting. Then there are sinister

attacks on mail-in balloting, sinister attempts to reduce and eliminate eligible voters with stricter required

proofs, etc. The real danger and crime with voting in America is best represented by that January 2, 2021

recorded phone call to Georgia pressuring the state to “find 11,780 votes, one more than we have, because

we won the state.” That was a lie and the attempt should have been a crime. Even one illegal vote should

not be considered legal, no matter how hungry you are for personal victory. Register to vote, plan to vote,

and don’t others take your one vote from you! Make it count.

Wednesday, 9:30AM Senior Ministry “Sister Talk” Discussion and Study. Men are also invited.

Wednesday, 10:30AM Whole Foods fresh produce distribution in Rhoda Hall to the community.

Thursday, 7:30PM AL-ANON STEP GROUP. Find and share support to overcome codependence!

Friday, 8:30AM Senior Food Box distribution.

Friday, 6:30PM Girl Scout troops.

Saturday, 11AM – 2PM Women’s Ministry “Gathering” in person and online. Special Mother’s Day

weekend event – “Hats and Hallelujahs” – with light meal, prayer, praise, arts and crafts, movie, and door

prizes for decorated and fashionable hats. $10 per person, $2 if you are under 12 years.
