Weekly Announcements for the week of May 17th

7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER 05-17-2026

Why did Jesus leave them? When his followers were beginning to accept the reality of his mysterious resurrection, Jesus was gone again. But he didn’t leave to abandon them… he left to empower them. The final words of Jesus to his disciples were a promise of the Holy Spirit, an instruction to stay together and wait, and the command to be his disciples in mission here, there, and everywhere. BECAUSE WE ARE THE LIVING, BREATHING, AND ACTING BODY OF CHRIST IN THE WORLD, WE HAVE IMPORTANT WORK TO DO. Lord, give us the wisdom, understanding, and knowledge we need in our waiting. Lord, give us the courage, boldness, and love we need in our doing. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, we have a message to hear and a story to tell!

GRATEFUL Christians are LOVING Christians!

Beyond support of our 2026 Budget ($187,927 is what we envision spending this year) are those opportunities for special giving on behalf of others. They include:

ELCA World Hunger Appeal (responding to international, national, and local hunger and poverty).

We have received $1,407 to date. Your love is showing!

Lutheran Charities Appeal (assisting three local social ministry organizations – KenCrest Services, Lutheran

Settlement House, and Gemma Services – that serve thousands of neighbors with various needs).

We received $10.00 last Sunday and $491 to date. Lives are being changed!

Mission Offering (For January 1 – June 30 it is Sisters of St. Joseph Refugee Housing Project. We sent them $579.65 in 2024.) We have received $268 to date. Help welcome others!

“God’s Global Barnyard” is an ELCA development project to fight poverty. We have received $20 to date.

ST. PETER’S CHURCH COUNCIL (05/11): (1) praised God with gratitude that folks have been giving offerings so that January – April  Budget Income was $65,375.14 and Budget Expenses were $65,958.73 (a small deficit after four months); (2) approved 3 months of Council minutes, correcting a computer issue; (3) received several reports and discussed several issues with no official decisions. We would like to add 2 members to our Church Council to reach the constitution (and “biblical”) number of 12. A Church Council member must be an official member of our congregation, and someone who has contributed an offering of record and taken Holy Communion in 2026 or 2025. Who might help lead and serve us?

Our present national spirit seems to be one of hate and hurt, of trumpeting the powerful and trampling the poor. People here and throughout the world are confused, amused, worried, angry. Hold onto Jesus. Hold onto hope. Close the door to hate and open the door to love. Stand up, speak up, reach out, do the right thing. Remember that the children ae watching and learning from you. What will you teach? Love others as Jesus Christ loves you.
