Weekly Announcements for 6-20_2025

PENTECOST 6 07-20-2025

My brother and my sister in Christ: Are you distracted? A few Sunday Gospel readings ago, Jesus tells those who would follow him that nothing must get in the way: no time to rest, no time to bury the dead, no looking back, no heavy baggage, no leisurely pace, no attitude of entitlement. Or, maybe, are you perhaps not distracted but nevertheless “out of focus”? Last Sunday we watched as a priest and a Levite valued the sacred duty of serving God in the Temple above stopping by to help another human being in desperate need. And this Sunday we watch as sister Martha is too anxious and too busy – trying to fulfill the important duty in the first century of showing hospitality to guests in the home – to stop and listen to Jesus, as her sister Mary does. Sometimes the choice is not between good and bad, but between what is good and what is better. Let us pray that we will allow ourselves the time and the silence to be receptive to God and reflective of our lives… that we might stop worrying about the wrong things and becoming frantic about the wrong priorities… and that we will seek a personal nourished relationship with the Lord. It will make a huge difference in our lives and in the lives of others!
