PENTECOST 20 / World Communion Sunday 10-06-2024
We are created to live in relationship – with neighbors, friends, loved ones, and above all with God. Think about the relationships in your life. Where do you find help and partnership (Genesis 2:18)? Where do you feel the strain of separation (Mark 10:9)? Who do you allow to get close to you, and who do you turn away (Mark 10:13-16)? In what ways do those relationships reflect your relationship with God? In what ways do you suffer with “hardness of heart”?
TODAY
9:00AM All Saints Choir warm-up for worship.
10:00AM + PENTECOST SEASON WORSHIP + (in person and online)
11:30AM All Saints Choir rehearsal.
Gifted, grateful, good, generous, and glorious in our giving.
Beyond support of our 2024 Budget ($179,787 is what we envision spending this year) are various special opportunities for giving on behalf of others. They include:
ELCA World Hunger Appeal (meeting international, national, and local hunger and poverty needs)
$5 last week, $2,278 received to date in 2024. Your spirit of love is on the shine!
Lutheran Charities Appeal (assisting three local social ministry organizations – KenCrest Services, Lutheran
Settlement House, and Gemma Services – that serve thousands of neighbors with various needs)
$976.50 received to date in 2024.
Mission Offering (For July – December we have selected a local ministry, the Sisters of Saint Joseph Refugee Housing Project, introduced to us by our young adult member Andrea Wood. Their work includes transitional housing for refugee resettlement, family support services, and a distribution center with needed household items and furniture. This Mission Offering, other monetary gifts, new and gently used items (they have a “wish list”, see the Pastors) and volunteer opportunities are all ways to respond to refugees in need with genuine love.) $293 received to date.
+ Join our family, share God’s love, and grow in discipleship. +
Welcome! There is a place for you here. We invite you to join us in that new life that is being shaped by the good news of Jesus Christ crucified and now risen among us. Be loved and forgiven, learn and grow and change, and offer your God-given gifts and abilities in loving service to others. Speak to our Pastors about Holy Baptism, membership in the congregation, and faithful discipleship.
LOVE, NOT HATE. PEACE, NOT VIOLENCE.
MERCY, NOT GREED. JUSTICE, NOT ABUSE.
HUMILITY, NOT ARROGANCE. GOD’S TRUTH, NOT LIES.
THE WAY OF JESUS, NOT JUST “MY WAY”.
Are you registered to vote? Are you committing to vote? Are you praying and trying?
Republican Ohio Senator JD Vance (He was “James Donald” when he was born, then “James David”, now favors just the initials “JD”) and Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (His full name is Timothy James… he’s a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Paul, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation) have had their more polite vice-presidential debate that focused on policy. There are apparently no more presidential debates scheduled (Mr. Trump said that he won the last one “92 to 7 according to almost every poll!!!”). We’re down to one month. Some are already voting. In this particular election, character and integrity ought to matter as much as, or even more, than policy. Do the right thing. And keep praying.
