PENTECOST 15                                                                                                   09-10-2023

Welcome to worship. Jesus says, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Young or old in age, short or long in our Christian walk, we cannot simply “go it alone.” Discipleship does not work that way. You cannot be the Church just by yourself. Coming together and staying together are important. Losing a brother or sister in the faith, then, is a very serious matter. That is why Jesus outlines a process for reconciliation in today’s Gospel. That is why we must always have the humility and spirit of Jesus to pray for, to seek after, and to work at reconciliation. Our worship is not complete unless we have done our best at reconciliation with one another. Our service is not complete without our urgent effort to reach out with saving love to those who need it most. We have a lifetime, but only a lifetime, to do this. Many of us are still learning, still growing, still trying…

 “Trudi’s Challenge”

At our 92nd ANNUAL MEETING OF ST. PETER’S (February 26), Trudi Wright suggested that 70 people giving an extra $143.00 in regular giving during calendar year 2023 would add about $10,000 to our Budget Income, taking care of our anticipated $7,322 deficit and creating a small surplus for 2023. Pastors Gwen and Neil liked that idea. If you would like to join in that quest, please designate such extra giving as “Trudi’s Challenge”. But it will blend with other general giving toward our 2023 Budget needs. Received to date since February 26: $2,104.00. Lord, let me steadily walk your path. Help me to give witness to your love through generous giving!

Happy Grandparents Day!

Hug a grandparent today… it doesn’t have to be yours.

World Suicide Prevention Day was initiated in 2003 and is observed on September 10 every year.

Suicide is far too common. Every year more an estimated 700,000 to 800,000 persons die by suicide, according to the World Health Organization, which is one person every 40 seconds. And in the United States suicide is a leading cause of death. Many more think about it, talk about it, and survive attempts. Light a candle today. Pray for all who are in despair, in depression, or encountering mental disorder. Reach out to those you know who are in crisis. Be there to listen. Seek or encourage mental health care. Celebrate your own survival or the survival of a loved one who once sought to die. Choose life! Affirm life! Live!
