5th Sunday after Epiphany 02-05-2023
Salt and light. This is another blessing of God’s grace, a gift of God’s love and spirit, just like the Beatitudes. Jesus calls his disciples – yes, you and me! – to be that which we have already received and are empowered to do: useful and productive, making a real difference in the lives of others. A righteousness that exceeds. We are called to be more than just good, as the Pharisees were good. We are challenged and led to a deeper and higher righteousness, living in the world yet set apart from the world as we reveal and reflect Christ. Jesus invites us to live with a humble faith and a genuine faithfulness that does not focus on obsessive rule keeping or personal advancement through moralistic goodness, but reaches beyond the self to the neighborhood and to the world in servant love. Preserve God’s word in your hearts and add the distinct flavor of God’s grace to the lives of others. Don’t hide your light under a basket, but shine forth with good deeds, giving God all the glory!
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH. Today Stephanie Fluellen, Ida Swindle, and Charlotte Webb, each previously baptized, affirm their Christian faith and officially join our St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church family. Let us welcome and embrace our sisters in Christ! We invite you to share in our new life together, which is being shaped by the good news of Jesus Christ crucified and now risen among us.
SHARE HIS LIGHT. 🕆 BEAR HIS WORD. 🕆 DARE HIS WILL.
