SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT                                                                                                                                                                                                 02-25-2024

+   Following   +

Abraham and Sarah were so thrilled with God’s promises that they left home and kindred not knowing where following God would take them. It was a risk of faith that took them through many years and many miles and many questions. Many years later, the disciples of Jesus were completely unprepared to hear him speak of his future with ominous words: suffer, rejected, killed. Nor were they eager to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him. Giving up our own plans – even our lives! – to trust and obey God still challenges our hearts, still boggles our minds. In your spiritual journey right this moment, are you so ashamed of the Gospel that you are a shame to Jesus? What must you do to really follow? The truth of Lent is that the cross is both the heart of God’s love for the world and also the heart of true discipleship. Live each day by grace into the dream of what God wants you to be.

God has blessed us to be a blessing!

PEACE   +   REST   +   ETERNAL LIFE

We thank God are for the life and faith of our St. Peter’s church member, Alicia Garrison, just 37 years old when her earthly journey ended just days ago. Her memorial service will be on Saturday. On the one hand, Christians see death as the genuine crisis it is – they grieve and they shed tears. On the other hand, Christians can and do have hope, hope that is grounded in the presence, the peace, the power, and the promises of God’s eternal and all-encompassing love through Jesus Christ our Lord. God’s love will uphold us as we face the turmoil and the tears of Alicia’s death and all other deaths.
