Monday  –   Deadline to register to vote. Don’t be fooled or discouraged by those who are trying to deceive, divide, and even destroy our nation for their own personal egos and greed. Use your right to vote even as    some seek to manipulate or eliminate it. Pray for God’s peace and justice to prevail even as some try to promote hate and violence.                                                         Happy brains.

A neuroscientist in San Francisco was researching what makes a happy brain. He concluded that there are four independent brain circuits that influence our lasting well-being. The first brain circuit has to do with “our ability to maintain positive states”. It makes sense that this ability creates joy within us. The second brain circuit, totally independent from the first, is responsible for “our ability to recover from negative states.” The neuroscientist wrote that one may be good at maintaining positive states but easily fall into an abyss of a negative state from which one has a hard time recovering. So this ability would help restore and renew us. The third brain circuit, also independent but essential to the others is “our ability to focus and to avoid mind-wandering.” This is the brain circuit that meditation seeks to develop, that creates order and balance when we are under stress or are disoriented. The fourth brain circuit is “our ability to be generous”. This ability has to do with our connection to others. That’s amazing! Science says that we have one entire brain circuit, one of only four, devoted to generosity. It is no wonder that our brains feel so good – are HAPPY! – when we help others or are helped by others, or even witness others being helped. There is strong and compelling evidence that we come “factory equipped” for cooperation, compassion, and generosity. That’s what our Creator has “wired” us to feel and to do. You can try to pretend that you are happy while facing emptiness and loneliness. You can seek to fake love and connection, concern and compassion without being genuine, without being generous. But God will know. Other people might guess. And this research suggests that, on the inside, YOU won’t be as full of joy as you might. You can have a more meaningful, joyful life.  LEARN TO LIVE. LIVE TO LOVE.
