SECOND SUNDAY OF CHRISTMAS                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                01-05-2025

The late, great African American theologian and writer, Howard Thurman, wrote this brief reflection entitled “The Work of Christmas”, which says:

When the song of the angels is stilled,

When the star in the sky is gone,

When the kings and princes are home,

When the shepherds are back with their flock,

The work of Christmas begins:

To find the lost,

To heal the broken,

To feed the hungry,

To release the prisoner,

To rebuild the nations,

To bring peace among brothers and sisters,

To make music with the heart.          (Howard Thurman)

A new year brings a fresh opportunity and a spiritual challenge to be regular and responsible in using our God-gifted lives and resources in faithful living and fervent loving. Today is just day #5 of 365 opportunities to do and to be this. May God lead and strengthen you along the way.

THANK YOU. Christmas, the shortest season of the Church’s “liturgical year”, just twelve days, ends tonight at midnight. We are so grateful for your reflective preparation during the four Sundays of Advent as we prayed for hope, peace, joy, and love during that season. We are so grateful for each and every way that you helped make our celebration of Christ’s birth meaningful for yourself and others during this season. Perhaps you helped decorate or sing… collected for or contributed to special projects… gave a card, small gift, text message, or visit to one another or to the Pastors… passed the love and light of Christ on to a family member, a neighbor, a stranger. Jesus was born to give us new life.
