Announcements for Week of January 10, 2021

Our three FOOD MINISTRIES are continuing right now. Even before COVID-19, one in five Philadelphians struggled with not having the means or the opportunity to get good, healthy, adequate food.

Whole Foods

The twice-a-month “Whole Foods fresh produce” distributions will occur on January 14 and January 28 beginning around 11:00AM; please use the lower entrance door on Briar Road. We never quite know what we will receive when we drive to the store, but make it available to our community and congregation. This distribution requires just name, address, and number in the family. We are now in our tenth year of this ministry.

Foodshare

Our monthly “Foodshare” distribution to members and neighbors facing food insecurity occurs on the third Saturday of each month, 10:00AM to 12:00 noon. The next distribution will be January 16; please use the lower entrance door on Briar Road.

Senior Food Box

Our monthly “Senior Food Box” distribution of supplemental groceries also continues each month. The next distribution will occur on January 22 at 8:30AM; please use the Church Office entrance door on 74th Avenue.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE will meet on Zoom at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 16.

A small number of adults and students will gather in Rhoda Hall at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 16 for a SUNDAY SCHOOL SERVICE PROJECT.

Sunday School

On most Sundays, immediately following Zoom worship and beginning a bit after 11:00AM, there will be Zoom Sunday School for children and teens. Tune in. Invite.

Worship

Zoom Worship continues each Sunday morning at 10:00AM. You can “show up” online or by phone for shared worship. Or, if you don’t get up in time, you can watch what happened later. On Sunday, January 17 we will remember the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. And on Sunday, January 24 our preacher will be the Rev. David Maddox II.

One of the great blessings of our Zoom worship, which was occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and guidelines, has been the wide participation of so many persons in leading written parts of the worship liturgy; reading the lessons; offering prayers, that are either printed or self-created; and singing worship responses, pre- selected hymns, or personally chosen song selections. In such troubled times of shadows, sorrow, suffering, and struggle, God’s people in Christ continue to join together to find forgiveness, new life, power, and mission! Pastor Gwen has been calling and texting near and far to recruit worship participants each week… rarely has someone not been able or willing to participate when asked. She doesn’t want to miss other volunteers. Please contact Pastor Gwen if you would like to volunteer.
