Weekly Announcements for the week of May 10, 2026

6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER 05-10-2026

Christian friends, God’s heart is for you, God’s children. God sent the Savior to deliver you by love. God sent the Spirit to direct you in your loving. And God sends you as the embodiment of God’s love for others. Contrary to what the world offers, it is love that is the very power of life, it is the way that life triumphs over death, defeats sin’s power, and conquers our inner turmoil. If we are not loving, then we are not in a right relationship with God. We have a life’s journey to practice becoming more obedient, more authentic, and more effective in our loving and, in doing so, to discover the true meaning of our life, to really be alive.

TODAY

MOTHER’S DAY. Today we celebrate mothers and mother figures, grandmothers and great grandmothers, daughters and sisters, young and old, and especially those who are in the Lord. In truth, this is a day that holds both joys and sorrows, expectations and longings, words spoken and much left unsaid. May we pray for those who have birthed us, who have nurtured us, who have pushed us and protected us, who have been tender and strong toward us, who have given us the love of God in our everyday lives, and who have prayed us up in good times and bad.

GRATEFUL Christians are always LOVING Christians!

Beyond support of our 2026 Budget ($187,927 is what we envision spending this year) are those opportunities for special giving on behalf of others. They include:

ELCA World Hunger Appeal (meeting international, national, and local hunger and poverty needs).

We have received $1,407 to date. Your love is showing!

Lutheran Charities Appeal (assisting three local social ministry organizations – KenCrest Services, Lutheran

Settlement House, and Gemma Services – that serve thousands of neighbors with various needs).

We received $40.00 last Sunday and $481 to date. Lives are being changed!

Mission Offering (For January 1 – June 30 it is Sisters of St. Joseph Refugee Housing Project. We sent them $579.65 in 2024.) We received $10 last Sunday and $268 to date. Help welcome others!

“God’s Global Barnyard” is an ELCA development project to fight poverty. We have received $20 to date.

On this date, May 10, in 1994, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated at the age of 77 years as South Africa’s first black President, marking the end of white minority rule and the beginning of a democratic era. During his oath of office, Mandela pledged to be faithful to the Republic of South Africa, to uphold its Constitution, and to devote himself to the well-being of all its people. In turbulent and troubled times throughout our world, let us celebrate and find hope in remembering that some leaders have it right in their hearts and then do the right thing.
