PENTECOST 8 08-03-2025

“Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

We may intellectually agree with these words of St. Paul (found in our Second Lesson) proclaiming that, through our baptism, we are joined with Christ in his death and resurrection, raised up to new understandings and attitudes and actions that are different from the world. It sounds good. But are we willing to humble ourselves and submit to this new reality that we have received… are we seeking to strip off our old selves and clothe ourselves with the new self that is renewed in the image of its Creator… can we commit ourselves to stay on course as we bear the name, spirit, and mission of Jesus Christ? Worldly values and worldly urges continue to entice and seduce us. Be careful – If you don’t stand up in Christ, you might fall for anything.
