PENTECOST 4 / SCHOLARSHIP SUNDAY 06-25-2023 Welcome to worship. Walking with God, following Jesus, is not necessarily a pleasant journey. The path of discipleship is not one of comfort, success, wealth, or fame. But Jesus has assured us, others have told us, and we have perhaps already experienced this – it is worth the risk. Do not fear. Trust the Lord with your life. Keep following. Become a better disciple. The early Christian Paul suggests in Romans that baptism is a journey or a process that occurs over an entire life. The movement is from the “old life” of sin to a “new life” in Christ. In baptism we are buried with Christ and then raised with Christ. No longer does and should sin have power over us… our ways, our values, and our objectives are changed. Every day we choose to live either just for ourselves or for some greater cause. The best cause ever is bearing the name, spirit, and mission of Jesus.

Scholarship Recognition Sunday. Lord God, we are grateful with our students at this time of graduation. We celebrate with them their accomplishments as they reach this milestone in their life. We pray that they will seek and recognize your guidance on the next stages of their journey. May your Spirit protect, guide, and empower them every step that they take. And may they seek to grow and live – according to the example and lordship of Jesus Christ – lives of joyful faith, loving service, justice, and peace! May they stay wise by knowing and remembering that there is no better life than life in Christ! Amen.
“Trudi’s Challenge”
During our 92nd ANNUAL MEETING OF ST. PETER’S (February 26), Trudi Wright suggested that 70 people giving an extra $143.00 in regular giving during calendar year 2023 would add about $10,000 to our Budget Income, taking care of our anticipated $7,322 deficit and creating a small surplus for 2023. Pastors Gwen and Neil liked that idea. If you would like to join in that quest, please designate such extra giving as “Trudi’s Challenge”. But it will blend with other general giving toward our 2023 Budget needs. Received last Sunday: $60.00. Total since February 26: $1,672.00. Lord, let me steadily walk your path. Help me to give witness to your love through generous giving!
Goodness is stronger than evil;
love is stronger than hate;
light is stronger than darkness;
life is stronger than death;
victory is ours through Him who loved us.

Giving in 2023.
You are invited to give to our selected Mission for January 1 – June 30: Covenant House of Philadelphia provides safe spaces, emergency sheltering, transitional housing, education and employment services, medical services, mental health and counseling support, nutritional food, clothing and more to every at-risk young person who is homeless or runaway and without much of a plan or support. To date in 2023, we have received $277.00. Please note that June 30 is just five days away. Carol Lee is also sponsoring a “Thrivent Action Project” that will ask for contributions of specific items. In 2022, Covenant House reached out to 910 young people through its core programs and services.
Never keep the story of God’s love a secret from others.
