Scholarship Recognition Sunday. Lord God, we are grateful with our students at this time of graduation. We celebrate with them their accomplishments as they reach this milestone in their life. We pray that they will seek and recognize your guidance on the next stages of their journey. May they continue to learn humility before you and grow in trust of you. May your Spirit protect, guide, and empower them every step that they take. And may they seek to grow and live – according to the example and lordship of Jesus Christ – lives of joyful faith, loving service, justice, and peace! May they become and stay wise by knowing and remembering that there is no better life than life in Christ!  Amen.

We offer thanks to Ms. Andrea Wood, a member of St. Peter’s and a recent master’s degree recipient from La Salle University, for the gift of her presence and the blessing of her words in today’s Sermon.

PEACE   +   REST   +   ETERNAL LIFE

We thank God for the life and faith of our St. Peter’s church member, Ernest Lucas, Jr., who completed his earthly journey this past week after 91+ years. On the one hand, Christians see death as the genuine crisis it is – they grieve and they shed tears. On the other hand, Christians can and do have hope, hope that is grounded in the presence, peace, power, and promises of God’s eternal and all-encompassing love through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let’s hold wife Bernice (married 71 years!), the Crawford family, and the Lucas family in our prayers in these days.

Reaching out with dollars that become loving deeds.

Beyond support of our 2024 Budget ($179,787 is what we envision spending this year to bear Christ’s name, spirit, and mission) are those special opportunities for giving on behalf of others. They include:

ELCA World Hunger Appeal (meeting international, national, and local hunger and poverty needs)

  •   $275 last week, $1,493 received to date in 2024.

Lutheran Charities Appeal (assisting three local social ministry organizations – KenCrest Services, Lutheran

  •     Settlement House, and Gemma Services – that serve thousands of neighbors with various needs)
  •   $10 last week, $704 received to date in 2024.

Mission Offering (For January – June we have selected Loaves and Fishes, Capetown, South Africa,       suggested by Pastor Bob Holum after he visited there. It is a shelter facility and social ministry that works with homeless people to provide “spiritual, psychological, and material renewal”.)

  •         $5 last week, $1,399 received to date with today through next Sunday to respond. Can we go even higher? At current exchange rate, this amounts to over 25,500 in South African Rand!
