TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD
02-12-2023
Today’s worship is a bridge between the Advent-Christmas–Epiphany cycle and the Lent-Easter cycle that begins in a few days with Ash Wednesday. UP ON THE MOUNTAINTOP JESUS IS TRANSFIGURED – dazzling light, glowing face, bright cloud, special guests and private conversation, thundering voice offering divine proclamation, mystery and awe and maybe even a sense of foreboding regarding the future. DOWN THE MOUNTAINTOP JESUS COMES – perhaps better prepared to go to Jerusalem to suffer and die. The three disciples who were with Jesus – Peter, James, and John – and all the disciples of every time and place – you and I – need that vision of glory, that glow of a promise, and a glimmer of hope in order to follow Jesus on the way to the cross. LISTEN TO JESUS! It is a fearful thing to be with Jesus sometimes. But to those of us who have tried to follow him, it is more fearful to be without him.
SHARE HIS LIGHT. ???? BEAR HIS WORD. ???? DARE HIS WILL.

- Do you believe that God loves you?
- Do you believe that you are a sinner?
- Do you believe that Jesus died for your sins?
- Will you now trust Jesus as your Savior and Lord?
Join in our new life together which is being shaped by the good news
of Jesus Christ crucified and now risen among us! Speak to our Pastors.
Pastor Gwen has been down in Evergreen, Alabama this weekend to celebrate the 100th birthday of Aunt Lettie Hurd (one of her father’s “people”). She’ll return today.
What’s Happening…
February 26… FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT. Hybrid Worship in person and online at 10:00AM.
After worship, St. Peter’s ANNUAL MEETING will be held in the Sanctuary, both “in person”
and “online”. We will officially approve our 2023 Budget, elect Church Council, etc. We
will need 50 adult “confirmed, communing, contributing” members of the Congregation
to officially meet.
- Please submit any written annual reports covering 2020, 2021, 2022 by tomorrow, February 20. We did not receive or distribute reports or meet together for our Annual
Meeting in 2021 or 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But let’s recall and celebrate how we made it through some rough times!
- We are looking for persons willing to be considered to help lead and serve our congregation. Our Church Council is 12 adult “confirmed, communing, contributing” members of the Congregation normally elected to 3-year terms, with two consecutive terms as the maximum limit. Again, because of the pandemic, our election cycles are out of sequence; and some have served longer than their initial term. We are seeking
to get back into sequence. And we will already have four vacant spots to fill.

In February you are invited to give an additional offering to:
- Lutheran World Relief (“Earthquake” in the memo line for urgently needed support and care);
- our quarterly Mission (We neglected to pick a cause at the Council meeting and will announce in the
future… last year we divided the total received over four quarters between Covenant House and
No More Secrets);
- LENT (Many of our Church family have expressed additional gratitude for God’s amazing grace
through the discipline of additional giving toward God’s work that happens at and through St.
Peter’s Lutheran Church. The 40 days of Lent begin this Wednesday.).
